Abstract

Business English major has been established widely in China; thus, the higher extent of requirements is put forward for Business English teachers because they are considered as the key element for the training of English business personnel. This study is based on applied undergraduate universities in Yunnan Province as well as applying descriptive analysis to investigate and evaluate Business English teachers’ general understanding towards Business English majors (directions), Business English skills-related abilities, business knowledge-related abilities, classroom teaching ability, practical guidance ability, scientific research ability, and demand. The results showed the lack of business knowledge had become a common problem for Business English teachers in applied undergraduate colleges in Yunnan Province even business knowledge plays a vital role in teaching and advising for students. Thus, those universities should strengthen internal and horizontal cooperation for the construction of Business English teachers.
